Three Hearts - Octopuses
Octopuses Have Three Hearts
An octopus may not be known for having a "big heart," but it certainly has multiple ones—three, to be exact. Two of these hearts pump blood to the gills, where it gets oxygenated, while the third circulates the oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body.
Unlike humans, octopuses have copper-based hemocyanin in their blood, making it highly efficient in cold, low-oxygen environments. This unique three-heart circulatory system supports their active and complex lifestyle—whether they are hunting prey, solving puzzles, or escaping predators.
Combined with their mastery of camouflage and intelligence, octopuses are perfectly adapted for life in the deep sea.
